This was published (on “My Book, the Movie”) when Russell Crowe was 10 years younger, but I think the casting still holds up well! What do you think? Who would you cast?
You have to get Jude Law in there somewhere. I loved him as a pope. As for Laura Linney, I would see her in anything. I did like Claire Foy in the Anne role and I like your choice, Susan. There is something "off" about your choice's looks and that is always fun to watch.
People give themselves away when they cast characters from favorite actors and actresses. I, for example, can't stand Russell Crowe except in the role of Aubrey. Your other candidates are fine. I did find Claire Foy perfect as Anne and Mark Ryland perfect as Cromwell. For Henry I'd cast Michel Kitchen - he can be terrifying because he can also be so good a man.
I agree that Mark Ryland was great. I came up with this casting before Wolf Hall was dramatized (actually, the first volume hadn’t even been published yet) and had I seen him, might have just kept him! Not so much Claire Foy—too conventionally pretty (as most Annes have been.) As for Henry, I have to admit I don’t know Michael Kitchen. Will have to look him up. I still like Crowe in the role, though—at least, the Crowe of 10 years ago.
OK, I do know Michael Kitchen. Just didn’t know his name, but have seen him in many shows. I agree he’d be good—although perhaps a bit too much warmth for Henry.

Jude Law—yes, got to get him in there. Hard to figure where, though, because all the other characters are so much less important.
