Susan, loved your look into Poor Things here. Thank you for sharing!!! The bit about liberals hating sex scenes - I can’t. Perhaps if Bella was constantly seeking penetrative sex to achieve orgasm, maybe it would have been more believable but we all know the realities of the orgasm gap. Bella not fearing pregnancy, not bleeding (either through period or first time sex) and the fact that the main character “had to” be oppressed to achieve her goals all just gave me the ick. I kept waiting for the feminism thinking “is it here in the room with us?” 🤣
Thank you. Those movies were much fresher in my mind than “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer,” which I’d seen way back in the summer. They were the parts I most enjoyed writing.
It is a very bizarre film - unlike anything I've seen before (but admittedly, I don't watch horror films, which I think this can be classified as. Although psychological thriller might be more accurate).

I'm, frankly, highly disappointed that Godzilla Minus One didn't get nominated for best picture. It's stellar.
I need a Memoji for this.
You make me want to see the ones I’ve missed so I can join this conversation. That would be all of them except Oppenheimer and Barbie.
Especially admired your discussion of Barbie & Poor Things & Sandra Hüller.

I'm guessing you also saw Glazer's Under the Skin - one of the most haunting, strange, and memorable movies I've seen. Still think about it often.
I actually haven’t seen it! Ordered last night on your recommendation but haven’t had a chance to watch yet.
